For the grace of God has appeared to save all men, child-training us in order that we should deny ungodliness and worldly strong desires, living soberly and righteously and godly in this present age (Titus 2:11–12).
God’s grace is His attitude whereby He gives a benefit without consideration of merit. Salvation is not based on the desires of men nor a person’s own efforts, but on God who shows mercy. Therefore, salvation comes to all who believe that Christ died on behalf of our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).
An expression of God’s wrath rests upon all individuals who suppress the truth in unrighteousness; for God delivers them to their desires, allowing them to corrupt themselves and receive in their own bodies the consequences of their fleshly works (Romans 1:18–32).
Ungodliness denotes a lack of reverence specifically toward God. This concept includes not only explicit acts of disrespect, such as idolatry or blasphemy, but also a broader failure to live in accordance with God’s desirous will and righteousness. In these last days—which we are in—many scoffers are present who follow their own ungodly passions; they cause division and are worldly people who do not have the Spirit as Jude 1:18 warns. These scoffers pose as ministers of righteousness while denying the Lord and twisting the truth. God’s word teaches us to deny these types of strong desires, rejecting the false teachings of Satan’s ministers (2 Corinthians 11:15), and to live a life that is sober (having a saved frame of mind), godly, and righteous.
