And we speak wisdom among the mature, indeed a wisdom not from this age nor from the rulers of this age, this [age] that is being rendered idle (1 Corinthians 2:6).
Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge. Human wisdom is based upon philosophy and the traditions of men. Scripture does not teach the wisdom of men, nor does maturity in Christ come through the wisdom of men. Our faith is not in the understanding of men, but in the inherent ability of God (1 Corinthians 2:5).
An age is a period, not restricted to time, in which God is showing something about Himself to intelligent beings. The age we are currently in is the malignantly evil age (Galatians 1:4). It is an age in which God is showing His character in contrast to Lucifer, the cherub who sought to become the fourth member of the trinity (Ezekiel 28:14; Isaiah 14:14). The world system, designed to pacify the sin nature of humans, is governed by Lucifer’s plan for this age (Ephesians 2:2).
However, this age is passing away, including the strong desires from the world system (1 John 2:17). Therefore, we are not to seek to follow the course of this age, but to do the desirous will of God. The truth that abides in us will go on into the next age (2 John 2). For it is the grace of God that teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly strong desires, so that we live with a saved frame of mind, righteously, and godly in this age (Titus 2:12).
