From whence, holy brethren, partakers of [the] heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus Christ, who was faithful to the One who appointed Him as Moses was in his whole house, Hebrews 3:1–2.
The High Priest of our confession is Jesus Christ, who is of the tribe of Judah. A tribe that had no mention of a priest relating to the law, Hebrews 7:14. Jesus is a High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, not according to the Levitical order, Hebrews 5:6. He was faithful to the one who appointed Him, just as Moses was in his whole house.
Jesus, who is the Second Person of the Godhead incarnate, wrapped Himself in flesh, not considering the outward display of His deity to be something He needed to grasp, but was found in the likeness of man. In this likeness, He submitted to the will of the Father, even to the point of death on a cross (Philippians 2:5–8).
He suffered, being tempted just as we are, so that He may serve as a merciful and faithful High Priest in the things pertaining to God and is thereby able to aid those who are tempted, Hebrews 2:17–18.
With this understanding, let us pay close attention to Jesus, who is counted of more glory than Moses. The Christian life is not about the Mosaic law nor the basic principles of the world. Rather, it is a life of freedom in Christ, allowing us to live out the righteousness we now possess in Him.
