Memory Verse

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, objectivity of mind, self-control. Against these there is no law (Galatians 5:22–23).

Although often represented as a cluster of grapes, the fruit is singular in nature. Therefore, each aspect is not inherently separate from the others. Love binds all other parts together, for it is the common thread present whenever the fruit is being manifested.

This fruit is not produced by the human nature. Thus, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to manifest this kind of character (Ephesians 5:18). This filling involves setting our minds on things above (Colossians 3:1–2) and seeking the desires of the Spirit. It is not an emotional filling, for we serve God in our spirit—our rational center (John 4:24). When we follow His desires, we will not carry out the cravings of the flesh (Galatians 5:17). This is not achieved through law, but by living according to who we are in Christ (Galatians 5:18).
