Memory Verse

And have watched and we testify that the Father sent the Son, Savior of the world, 1 John 4:14.

John’s words in this passage are difficult to convey in English without using additional words because he is not simply expressing that he saw the Son, but that he is in a state of having watched Him. This state permanently impacts John, for he has watched Jesus with his own eyes, knowing full well that He was God in the flesh.

Therefore, John witnesses to the fact that the Father has indeed sent the Son to be the savior of the world. This act is a result of God the Father expressing love towards the world (John 3:16). This is not a love that is based upon attraction; rather, it seeks the best for the one loved. Thus, God’s act of love was to give the world a Savior.

There is only one name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Name always refers to the character of a person. When we believe in Jesus, we are taking God at His word concerning who Jesus is and what He has done, for He is the one who died on behalf of our sins and was raised on the third day according to the Scripture (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). Thus, He is the Savior of the world!
