For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone among you, do not think of yourselves more highly than is necessary to think, but to think with the purpose of being sober, each according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned (Romans 12:3).
We are instructed not to frame our minds concerning ourselves in a manner that exceeds what is appropriate or necessary—namely, being high-minded. Instead, our frame of mind should be established according to the spiritual gift bestowed upon us by God. For instance, if one is a pastor, the mind should be oriented toward shepherding and teaching; if one is endowed with the gift of giving, it should be exercised generously; if one is called to show mercy, it should be performed with cheerfulness. Let us find contentment in the gifts God has provided and align our minds accordingly, cultivating a perspective that reflects the measure of faith God has apportioned to each of us.
